The Department of Sanitation is gearing up for the season early by hiring emergency snow laborers to combat ice and snow. The per diem workers will be paid $13.50 an hour and $20.25 for overtime, to clear sidewalks, crosswalks, fire hydrants and bus stops after big storms. Snow laborers must be 18 years old and “capable of performing heavy physical labor, “according to the listing. Anyone interested in applying can do so at a local sanitation garage from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays — there are 60 located throughout the five boroughs — or at four Department of Transportation locations.
To register for the job, all applicants must bring a social security card, two forms of identification with a copy of each and two small photos. For more information, visit the DSNY website.
