Subway Performers Can Now Bring ‘Showtime’ Skills Above Ground!

***EXCLUSIVE*** NEW YORK - UNDATED: (L-R) Andrew
It’s Showtime NYC aims to celebrate and promote New York City street culture by providing performance and professional development opportunities to street and subway dancers as a legal alternative to dancing in subway cars. The pilot program “It’s Showtime NYC”  gives dancers legal space to show off their moves and make a few bucks. It’s designed as an alternative to unlawful performances on-board subway cars, which can result in fines and even arrests. Last year, the NYPD started cracking down on subway performers. According to the New York Times, arrests of transit dancers are down 30 percent so far this year. The performances will take place every Saturday in September from 12 to 4 p.m. in Battery Park. LINK
