Owners Fix Up Bronx Building Considered To Be The Birth Place Of Hip Hop!

hiphopThe building at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue is quite the tourist attraction, known as the birthplace of hip hop, is all fixed up and getting the attention some say it’s always deserved. In 2007, the New York State Office Of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation recognized the Bronx building as the birthplace of the genre. A year later, the building was sold, and the new owner wanted to get rid of the building’s affordable housing status. Instead of that happening, though, the building first fell into foreclosure and then disrepair. Now, the building has been fixed up, and the new owners are making sure rent will be kept affordable for the current residents. DJ Kool Herc is credited with creating the hip hop genre 40 years ago during a back-to-school party in the building’s rec room. Link To Story
